Former Fairfielder dies

SAN PEDRO, Calif. - Wallace B. AUCKLAND, 68, a retired Navy commander formerly of Fairfield, died Sunday at his home in San Pedro.

He was born Dec. 29, 1918, near Eldon to John and Ethel JAYNE AUCKLAND. After graduating from Fairfield High School in 1936, he attended the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He graduated in 1946. Auckland served through World War II and was a Navy pilot and instructor. At retirement he was serving on the D.E.W. Line.

Auckland married Mary Ellen EUIE in Maryland. She survives.

Including his wife, he is survived by two sons, James Bruce of Los Angeles and John Stacey of San Diego; six grandchildren; two sisters, Jennifer BENNETT of Mount Vernon, Ill., and Patricia BROWN of Fairfield; and a brother, John DAVIS of Midlothian, Ill.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister.

Private cremation services were held Tuesday in San Pedro.

The last time Auckland was in Fairfield was for his high school class reunion last summer.
