Elizabeth M. Hoskins, 80, of Richland died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at her home.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, at Woolson Friends Church, south of Richland, with the Rev. Ned Van Nostrand officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland, with the family present from 6:30-8 p.m.

Memorials to Woolson Friends Church, Richland First Responders, Richland Fire Department or to the donor's choice have been established and may be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 211 S. Church St., Packwood 52580.

Mrs. Hoskins was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis R. and Mary E. Lemley Duke. She married Chalmers Hoskins Feb. 15, 1945, near Salem. He died Dec. 13, 1991.

Mrs. Hoskins attended Burr Oak country school, south of Brighton, and later moved to Pleasant Plain where she finished eighth grade and graduated from high school in 1941. After her marriage, she and her husband lived on farms near Richland until moving to Fairfield in 1953. They moved to a farm north of Fairfield in 1957 and moved to Richland in 1963. She attended one year of college at William Penn University in Oskaloosa and graduated from Parsons College. She taught rural school for two years near Mount Pleasant, taught at Pleasant Plain elementary school, Pekin Community Schools in Richland, Ollie and Pekin Elementary School until her retirement in 1986. She taught for more than 32 years and was still active as a substitute when needed.

She was a long-time member of Woolson Friends Church and was formerly a member of Brighton Chapter AQ P.E.O.

Survivors include two daughters, Judy Maeder and husband Mel of Packwood, Mary Dunaway and husband Tim of Shelbina, Mo.; one son, Raymond Bub Hoskins and wife Lynn of Chariton; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
