Leona A. Sidwell, 93, formerly of Douds died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, of complications from influenza, at Parkview Care Center, where she had resided since June 2002.

Private graveside services will be held at Leando Cemetery in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Memorials to Douds Senior Meals may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2507 Glasgow Road, Fairfield 52556.

Mrs. Sidwell was born Feb. 18, 1910, near Douds, the daughter of Robert and May Roush Evans. She married Floyd Sidwell Dec. 10, 1929, in Douds. He died June 30, 1998.

Mrs. Sidwell graduated from Douds High School and attended Parsons College. She taught in rural Van Buren County schools and farmed with her husband between Douds and Troy until retiring to Douds.

Mrs. Sidwell had been a Pythian Sister. Quilting was her hobby and she had won several awards at quilt shows.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Sidwell and wife Peggy of Fairfield; one sister, Roberta Teeter of Fairfield; and two brothers, Jasper Evans of Des Moines and Donald Richard Stagers of Ottumwa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Stanley Evans; one infant son; and two sisters, Leta Swank and Evelyn Young.
