Mary E. FAIRCHILDS (sic - FAIRCHILD) was born near Rome, Iowa, Mar. 28th, 1845, and died September 28th, 1911, age sixty-six years, six months. She was married to George CRAFF December 31st, 1863. After living on different farms in Jefferson county they located on the farm south of Lockridge where they made their home continuously for thirty-seven years. She was the mother of six children, three of whom died when quite small. The three that remain with the bereaved husband to mourn her loss are G. L. CRAFF of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Miss Eunice A. HORTON of Lockridge, Iowa, and Charles T. CRAFF. Three brothers, Perry of Placerville, Idaho, Alfred of Eldon, Iowa, and Amos of Baker City, Oregon, and two sisters, Mrs. Harriet AINSWORTH of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Rosa OLDT of Stockport. With many other relatives and friends they will miss her at the old home where they have been her guests in the years that are passed. Mrs. CRAFF, when a young woman, was among the seekers after truth and righteousness in the Baptist church at Rome where she was a teacher in the Sunday school before and after her marriage. Throughout her life she was a firm believer in the saving and uplifting influence of religion. She was a good mother and faithful wife and her helpful work among the sick and afflicted will long be remembered. Her suffering was severe during her last illness, her death was peaceful as one going to sleep leaving her testimony that she made her last request and was ready to depart.
