Principal Larry GILPIN dies

Larry L. GILPIN, 58, 306 W. Fillmore Ave., principal at Fairfield Middles School, died at 8:25 a.m. Sunday, May 2, 1993, at Jefferson County Hospital.

GILPIN was born March 22, 1935, in Des Moines, the son of Arbor R. and Louise ETZEL GILPIN. He married Myrna L. TUBBS on Oct. 27, 1956, in Duncombe. An employee of the Fairfield School District for 33 years, he had been principal at the Fairfield Middle School for 25 years. Before moving to Fairfield, he had lived in Fort Dodge. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fairfield Booster Club, past president of Fairfield Little League, was a member of National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Iowa Association of School Administrators.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Kyle and Darin, both of Fairfield, Kent of Denver, Colo.; two daughter, Christy LEAZER of Fairfield, Kelly RANKIN also of Denver; five grandsons; his parents of Fort Dodge; and a brother, James of Prescott Valley, Ariz.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Royar officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the North Lawn Cemetery at Fort Dodge with the Rev. Dean Fullerton officiating. Visitation is open at Behner Funeral Home. The family has established a memorial in his name.

Fairfield Middle School will be closed all day Tuesday. Other schools in the Fairfield School District will be dismissed at noon.
