Gerald 'Gene' STUMP

LIBERTYVILLE - Gerald "Gene" E. Stump, 69, died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 1996, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Nesbitt officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Fell Cemetery Association or the Libertyville Ballpark.

STUMP was born July 11, 1927, in Libertyville, the son of Russell and Florence Elizabeth HOWARD STUMP. He graduated from Libertyville High School in 1944 and had lived his entire life in the Libertyville community. On Sept. 9, 1961, he married Karen L. RODIBAUGH in Fairfield. He farmed in Liberty and Village townships.

He was mayor of Libertyville from 1977 to 1995 and had served on the Libertyville City Council from 1965 to 1975. He was instrumental in getting water, sewer and cable television, a senior citizen meal site, the Libertyville Community Center and senior citizen apartments in Libertyville. He also helped build the Little League Park with Harold McNeeley. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran from 1951-1953.

Surviving are his wife; a brother, Robert of Libertyville; and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death.

(I extensively research the RODABAUGH/RODIBAUGH lineage.)
