Orville T. MORRIS

Orville T. MORRIS, 96, of Fairfield, and formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Jeffrey A. McPheron of Trenton United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery with graveside military honors conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, there will be no family visitation.

Mr. MORRIS was born Feb. 10, 1916, in rural Hillsboro, the son of Rex S. MORRIS and Mary THOMPSON. He married F. Ailene HUBER June 12, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Mrs. MORRIS died Dec. 25, 1985.

Mr. MORRIS attended grade school in Hillsboro and later moved with his family to Urbana where he attended Urbana High School.

He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps., in Marion.

He was inducted into the United States Army March 31, 1941, at Fort Des Moines.

He served as a truck driver for Provost Sections 2571st Service Unit of the 43rd Engineers Battalion. He was stationed in the East Indies, Papuan and New Guinea (sic). He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class, Sept. 16, 1945, at the Jefferson Barracks, Missouri Separation Center.

Following his service in the Army, Mr. MORRIS was a truck driver for a brief time.

He worked for the Highway Department of Henry County for 30 years.

He worked in the county quarry, drilling, blasting and driving a rock delivery truck.

In the summer, he mowed for the county.

He was a member of the American Legion Robert Tribby Post No. 58 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2561, both in Mount Pleasant.

He loved to go camping and fishing with his family.

Survivors include one son, Scott S. MORRIS and spouse Angie of Fairfield; one daughter, Jill SAMMONS of Fairfield; one sister, Mrs. Patricia A. ROSE of West Burlington; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Virgil MORRIS.
