Charles David MELVIN

Charles David MELVIN, 51, 700 E. Lowe Ave. No. 224, died at 1:48 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 1998, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Witherspoon officiating. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens in Paintsville, Ky. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or Jefferson County Heart Fund. Memorials may be sent to the family home also. Behner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. MELVIN was born Oct. 7, 1946, in Elliott County, Ky., the son of Charles E. and Myrtle Marie THORNSBURY MELVIN. He married Sue SPARKS Dec. 21, 1966, in Clintwood, Va. He lived in the Fairfield community for five years since 1993. He was a supervisor at Rockwell-Meritor for 30 years. He was in the U.S. Army for two years. He was a member of First Baptist Church and Elks Lodge.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Charles; one daughter, Tricia VORHIES; and a grandson, all of Fairfield; his mother of Sandy Hook, Ky.; one brother, James of West Liberty, Ky.; one sister Brenda PRATER of Portsmouth, Ohio; and his grandmother, Ila THORNSBURY of Sand Hook.

He was preceded in death by his father.
