George FOWLER Dead.

In the death of George E. FOWLER at his home northwest of Fairfield, Sunday, March 15, Jefferson county loses one of the sturdy pioneers that helped to make our county what it is. Mr. FOWLER had been in poor health for the past several years with the ills incident to old age, but pneumonia was the cause of his death.

He was a native New Yorker, having been born at Port Jarvis, N. Y., August 25, 1820. He grew to manhood there and came to Jefferson county and was married here to Annie B. ZEIGLER, March 5, 1846. Of their sixty-three years of married life sixty-two of them have been spent on the farm where he died. Here they lived and reared their family and the wife and seven children are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father.

The children are: Katherine FOWLER, Fairfield; Edmund FOWLER, Muscatine: Samuel, Hannah, Mary E. and B. F. FOWLER of Fairfield, and Mrs. F. W. HUSS of Afton.

Mr. FOWLER was always one of the most esteemed and respected citizens of the county, always ready and willing to give of his funds and labor to help along anything that was for the public good. He was a Presbyterian in religious faith and his religion was of the every-day kind that wears.

Funeral services were conducted from the home Tuesday morning in charge of Rev. Ernest Snook and the large attendance was a silent testimony of the esteem and respect accorded him in the community where he spent the greater part of his life.
