Page 5, Column 3DEATH OF JACOB SMITH, at his home Tuesday morning at 4:30 o'clock..... Born in Ohio Jan. 25, 1849, and moved with his parents to Clay County, Ind., coming from there to Iowa in 1869. Two years later, in 1871, he was united in marriage to Miss Pollie KIRK. Eight children, two dying in infancy. Remaining are J. L. SMITH of Melrose, Iowa; Maggie WELCH of Ottumwa; Katie ALLENDER of Mt. Pleasant; James and William SMITH of Lockridge, and Lizzie MESSER also of Lockridge. A man of sterling character, respected and esteemed by all, Free Methodist Church. Burial in Lockridge Cemetery.
