Jefferson County Republican, Apr. 8, 1910, p.5, col.2. Erastus Pitkin was born in Montpelier VT, Apr. 30, 1824. When young he came to Birmingham and settled, engaging in banking and the mercantile and stock business. Here he was married to Emily Barnes who died last January. About 25 years ago he moved to Fayetteville AR because of failing health and continued to live there until after his wife's death, when he came here to live with his daughter, Mrs. J.C. Thorne. He died Friday and the body was taken to Birmingham for burial Sabbath afternoon. Methodist church. Survived by three children: J.W. Pitkin of AR, Mrs. Mary Dofflemeyer of CO and Mrs. J.C. Thorne of this city.
