OBITUARY.

The funeral of Joseph CLINKENBEARD the Jefferson county pioneer, was held this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock from the Bernard CLINKENBEARD residence in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly. The following old settlers were selected as the pall bearers:

Cranmore Gage, John McLean, Tom Rider, Samuel Cummings, R. D. DuBois and George Parker.

Mr. CLINKENBEARD had resided in Jefferson county for nearly 89 years, his first home here being on Cedar creek. When he first visited Fairfield there was but one building here, a log house at the northwest corner of the square. Cranmore Gage came a year later and there were then eight log houses. In 1849 Mr. CLINKENBEARD drove an ox team to California.

In early life he was converted in the Christian church and later, with his wife, joined that denomination. Since coming to Fairfield he has not been connected with any church.

"Grandpa" CLINKENBEARD, as he was usually called, was a good and obliging neighbor. He had extensive knowledge of the early history of Jefferson county. He is not only mourned by immediate relatives, but by a wide circle of friends, and the passing of the oldest living pioneer is regretted.
