SAMUEL SYLVESTER ARNOLD

Samuel Sylvester, only surviving child of Fred and Jane ARNOLD, was born on April 15, 1860 in Henry county, Iowa. He lived to be almost 80 years of age, passing away at his home in Fairfield, Jan. 6, 1940.

In 1880 he was married to Mary SHULTZ (sic - SHULTS) and lived happily in this union until she passed away in 1924. Seven children were born to them. Four have preceded him in death, Ethel, Emma, May and Roy (sic - Ray). Surviving him are two sons, Samuel of Mount Pleasant, Fred of Fairfield and one daughter, Mrs. Minnie CHEZUM of Fairfield. There are also nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two half sisters and one half-brother, survive him.

Mr. ARNOLD had been ailing for some time. A year ago sickness confined him to his home and he had gotten gradually worse till (sic) he passed away early on Saturday morning. A wide circle of loved ones and friends will mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at the Hoskins funeral home on Monday afternoon conducted by S. P. Williamson, minister of the First Christian church. Mrs. Williamson sang the hymns and Miss Reva Patten played. Intimate friends were pallbearers. The remains were interred in Evergreen cemetery.
