Thursday rites for R.L. HAAS

OTTUMWA - Richard L. HAAS, 70, died Monday morning in Des Moines General Hospital at Des Moines.

He was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Grandview, the son of George and Ida HAAS. On Oct. 25, 1936, he married Alice PATTON in Farmington. She survives.

Haas farmed for many years southeast of Fairfield, operated the Davis Paint Store and was an optometrist in Fairfield. He served as director of Ankron Community School District in Cedar Township and was an active 4-H'er.

Including his wife of Batavia, he is survived by a daughter, Karen TEDROW, Libertyville; two sons, Dwight, Flossmoor, Ill., and Terryl, Carthage, Mo.; a sister, Thayla JOHNSON, Osage; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Haas was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Shrine of Memories Funeral Home in Ottumwa with the Rev. Robert Cloninger of World Wide Church of God officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
