Harold W. "Bill" HELSEL

Harold W. "Bill" HELSEL, 79, of Cantril, died at 12:52 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua.

A funeral is at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Cantril Christian Church with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial with military rites by American Legion Russell-Strait Post No. 483 will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

Visitation opens at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Cantril Christian Church or Maple Grove Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 305 Martin St., Cantril 52542.

Mr. HELSEL was born Dec. 26, 1932, in Davis County near Troy, the son of Len and Florence FISHER HELSEL. He married June ABERNATHY May 25, 1952, at Prairie View Church near Azen, Mo.

He graduated from Troy High School.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He spent his life farming in the Cantril area.

He was a member of Cantril Christian Church and American Legion Russell-Strait Post No. 483 in Milton, and had been a member of the former Cantril Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Cindy BRUCE of Milton; one granddaughter; and one sister, Patsy HELSEL of Tucson, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepbrother, Dale SNYDER.
