Apparent suicide ruled in death near Mount Ayr

A Ringgold county resident died as the result of an apparent suicide Wednesday, May 21, according to the Ringgold County Sheriff's Department.

The Ringgold County Sheriff's office, Ringgold County Medical Examiner and Division of Criminal Investigation were called to investigate the death of Roxie Ann DEUTSCH, 53, of Mount Ayr.

DEUTSCH was found at her home at 2172 250th Avenue (east of Mount Ayr) by her husband, Jim DEUTSCH at approximately 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The DEUTSCHs have lived in the area for about 18 months. Jim DEUTSCH is manager of the Hy-Vee store in Mount Ayr.

DEUTSCH notified the sheriff's office of the incident. An autopsy was performed to confirm the cause of death.

Funeral services for DEUTSCH were held Saturday at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.

OBITUARY ~ ROXIE ANN DEUTSCH

Roxie Ann CREEK DEUTSCH of Mount Ayr was born October 26, 1949 in Fairfield, Iowa, to Benny and Millie MANCHESTER CREEK and passed away at her home near Mount Ayr, Iowa on Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at the age of 53.

Roxie married Jim DEUTSCH on July 8, 1967 at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa. Roxie lived most of her life in the Libertyville and Fairfield, Iowa communities until she and her husband moved to Mount Ayr 18 months ago where he managed the local Hy-Vee store.

Roxie graduated from Fairfield high school with the Class of 1967. She owned the J&R Cafe and Roxie's Last Resort in Libertyville from 1983 until 1994. She worked at Jim's Foods in Fairfield, was the cook at the Walton Club and a homemaker.

Roxie was a member of the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Mount Ayr and the Mount Ayr Golf and Country Club and a former member of the Fairfield Elks Lodge #1182, Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie) #1927 and the Walton Club.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her father, Benny CREEK; and one brother, Rick CREEK.

She is survived by husband, Jim DEUTSCH of Mount Ayr; her mother, Millie CREEK of Fairfield; four daughters: Laura MINEARAT (sic - MINEART?) and husband, John, of Fairfield, Amy ESSARY and husband, Jason, of Washington, Jamie DEUTSCH and fiance, Rob KELLER, of Urbandale and Amanda MILLER and husband, Joe, of Des Moines; and seven grandchildren.

A family visitation followed by a Christian Wake Service was held in the evening of May 23 at Saint Josephe's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain.

Funeral services were held on May 24 at the Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain with Father Charels Fladung officiating. Burial was in the Fell Cemetery southwest of Libertyville, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to the University of Iowa Foundation of the Bi-Polar Research, the Fell Cemetery Association or fo (sic - for) Masses said in Roxie's memory at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Mount Ayr or East Pleasant Plain. Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, Iowa was in charge of the arrangements.
