B. M. POPEJOY Taken In Death

BRIGHTON --- Bernard Mathias POPEJOY, Pleasant Plain died at Veterans Hospital in Iowa City about 3 a.m. this morning.

The body is at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton where final rites are pending.

Bernard Mathias POPEJOY, 74, was born July 21, 1894, in McClain [sic] County, Ill. He was the son of William and Nellie MARTIN POPEJOY.

He was married to Ella CANADY [sic] on June 18, 1919, moved to Jefferson County in 1913 and lived north of Birmingham. He moved to Pleasant Plain in 1931, where he has made his home since.

He was a member of the American Legion Post at Fairfield; and a charter member of the Birmingham Legion Post. He was a member of the Bethel Methodist Church near Birmingham.

Survivors include is [sic] widow and two sons, William and Jack of Pleasant Plain; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; also two brothers, Lester, Fairfield, and Virgil, RADCLIFFE, along with several nieces and nephews.

POPEJOY Funeral To Be Thursday

BRIGHTON --- Last rites for B. M. POPEJOY will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with the Rev. Wade Dillavou in charge. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham.

Bernard M. POPEJOY died Monday morning in the Veterans Hospital in Iowa city. He had been a resident of the Pleasant Plain community since in 1931.

Note: “McClain” county should be “McLean”, “CANADY” should be “CANADAY”. I am researching this family.
