Herb HANNA Dies at 70

BATAVIA - Herb W. HANNA, 70 died at University Hospital in Iowa City at 5:15 p.m. Saturday. He had undergone surgery at Ottumwa Hospital on Aug. 26.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bladensburg Christian Church with the Rev. Leonard Sammon and the Rev. Kermit Black officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Born June 6, 1907 in Wapello County, he was the son of Guy and Ella SUMNER HANNA and had always lived and farmed in the area where he was born.

He had formerly been a breeder of purebred Poland China hogs, and he was Wapello County treasurer from 1962 to 1974. He was a member of the Bladensburg Christian Church, Kilwinning Masonic Lodge of Batavia, and Kaaba Shrine.

His marriage to Mildred BALL took place March 28, 1931. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Gary and Ellis of Denver, Colo., and Mary Lou of Colorado Springs, Colo., eight grandchildren, two great-granddaughters, two brothers, Charles of Agency and Dave of Ottumwa, one sister, Mrs. Edna SUTTON of Warsaw, Ind. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
