Doris Alice SCOTT

Doris Alice SCOTT, 96, of West Branch, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Crestview Care Center in West Branch, after a brief illness.

Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center, 451 West Orange St., West Branch 52358.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral & Cremation Service in Fairfield.

Mrs. SCOTT was born Dec. 22, 1915, in Tulare County, Calif., the daughter of Carl Harris and Lucille Adeline ANDERSON FISCHER. She married her high school sweetheart, G. Warren SCOTT in 1937. He died in 2000.

After the death of her father from Spanish influenza in 1918, she moved to Fairfield with her mother and sister. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1933.

She and her husband lived in Fairfield, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Farm Bureau, and in Ottumwa, where she worked for Union Bank and Trust Co.

In 1948, they joined her brother-in-law in the farm equipment business in Winfield. In 1960, the farm equipment business evolved into a farm and home supply operation in Muscatine, Iowa City and Marion, and was renamed Fleetway Stores.

She was an active participant in both the farm equipment and Fleetway operations.

In 1997, Fleetway was sold. The SCOTTs relocated to West Branch in 1999.

She enjoyed travel, the Iowa Hawkeyes, golf, crafting, needlework, crossword puzzles, movies - especially musicals - Christmas and her family.

Survivors include one son, James SCOTT and spouse Alice of West Branch; one daughter, Julie SCOTT of Iowa City; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 63 years, she was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Thelma.
