Leonard CURTIS

Leonard CURTIS, 77, of Holiday Trailer Court in North Liberty, died at 10:58 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 1993, in the dialysis unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Lothe officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia. Visitation is open at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 9 tonight. A memorial has been established to the dialysis unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Curtis was born June 17, 1916, near Batavia in Wapello County, the son of Thomas Arthur and Ada Claudia TRESENRITER CURTIS. He grew up in the Batavia community, graduating from Batavia High School in 1934. He married Wilma Marie "Pat" McCLEARY on Nov. 26, 1938, at the Methodist parsonage in Lancaster, Mo. He farmed in Wapello and Jefferson counties, he and his wife owned and operated Curtis Nursing Home in Fairfield, and he worked at American Chain and Cable Co. until retiring. They lived in Fairfield and Ottumwa before moving to North Liberty. He was a volunteer worker for six years at the former St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa, a former member of Lockridge Saddle Club, and a member of North Liberty United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Terry of Williamsburg, Robert of Bradley, S.D.; two daughters, Barbara PREVITT of Ottumwa, Rita HARPER of Fort Worth, Texax; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence of Coarse Gold, Calif.; two sisters, Bertha McNEIL of Agency and Naomi HUTTON of North Royalton, Ohio. His parents and four brothers, Estol, Chester, Ethan and an infant Willard, preceded him in death.

Admin. note: Buried in the New Part of the cemetery, Lot 52, with wife Wilma who died in 1995.
