Donna MONTE, 82, of Ames, passed away July 14, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 18 at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert.
Donna JoAnne MONTE was born March 21, 1930 to Donald and Josephine (BOWERS) HITEMAN in Forreston, Illinois.
She graduated Forreston High School in 1948. Donna attended Carthage Collage in Carthage, Illinois where she was a member of Sigma Alpha IOTA Music Fraternity. Donna graduated Magna cum Laude in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Music Education.
She and Lenwood MONTE were married August 2, 1953 in Forreston, Illinois.
Donna began giving piano lessons at age 12 and continued as a piano teacher for 70 years, as well as teaching elementary music for many years in several school districts. She enjoyed knitting prayer shawls and also crocheting, making hundreds of cuddle caps for newborns at Mary Greeley Medical Center. She was a volunteer at the Hospitality Shop at Mary Greeley. Donna was a member of Gilbert Lutheran Church and was an organist at the parishes she and Lenwood served throughout Illinois and Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, The Rev. Lenwood MONTE of Ames; her son Gary MONTE of Des Moines; her daughter Debra DOLAN of Ames; her sister-in-law Odelle LEONARD of Greenfield, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be designated to Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
