Edith June Ricks, 77, of Brighton died at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa, following a brief illness.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brighton United Church in Brighton, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery near Wayland.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to Brighton Volunteer First Responders and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 401 W. Fountain St., Brighton 52540.

Mrs. Ricks was born Sept. 30, 1926, in Middletown, the daughter of William E. and Bessie K. Neff Zickefoose. She married Joseph Ricks Dec. 22, 1946, in Brighton.

Mrs. Ricks graduated from Brighton High School and taught country school west of Brighton and Coppock before her marriage. She was a homemaker. She sold Watkins products for many years. Playing dominos was included in her pastimes.

She actively assisted her husband in his ministry in Sumner, Cranston, West Gate, Alburnett, Seymor and Mount Union. She conducted mid-week services while her husband attended seminary, was a choir director and held conference level officer positions in the United Methodist Women. She was a member of Brighton United Church, Brighton Lions Club and TTT.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Joe Ricks and wife Vickie of Richmond, Ind.; and one daughter, Lani Kay Meader and husband Stanley of Washington; five grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Oletha Waterhouse of Washington, Jean Dunbar of Brighton and Darlene Reighard of Springfield, Mo.; and two brothers, Gail and Les Zickefoose, both of Brighton.

Mrs. Ricks was preceded in death by her parents; two infant granddaughters; and one brother, Leonard Zickefoose.
