Georgia M. ELLIS

Georgia M. ELLIS, 93, of Keota, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at the Washington County Hospital in Washington, Iowa.

The funeral is at 10 a.m. Thursday at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with the Rev. Frances Baumert officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established for Washington County Hospice and Keota QRS.

Mrs. ELLIS was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Douds, the daughter of Ray and Lennit SLULTZ BARNETT. She married Henry Louis ELLIS June 11, 1935, in Kahoka, Mo. He died in 1993.

The couple lived in Hillsboro until moving to Keota in 1948, where Mrs. ELLIS worked at Flanders Locker Plant for seven years and Twilight Nursing Home for eight years, retiring in 1967.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking, her children and grandchildren and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include 10 children, Dorothy SCHWAB, Sally SNOW, Larry ELLIS and Richard ELLIS, all of Keota, Barbara GORE of Manning, Dennis ELLIS of Austin, Minn., Mildred YODER of Wellman, Terry ELLIS of West Chester, Donna BAKER and Beverly BUTNER both of Fremont, Neb.; 18 grandchildren; 94 great-, great-great- and great-great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Margaret WORKMAN and Beulah SHILLING of Fairfield, Leona SANDERSON of Hillsboro and Charlotte WALRICK of Danville and one brother: Jimmy BARNETT of Fairfield.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marie ELLIS; and three brothers, Robert BARNETT, Rex BARNETT and Lex BARNETT.
