Dorothy H. SHUGART, 85, of Bonaparte, died at 7 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Dorothy H. SHUGART

Dorothy H. SHUGART, 85, of Bonaparte died at 7 a.m. Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

The body has been cremated. No service is planned.

Memorials may be made to Bonaparte Baptist Church Memorial Fund for stained glass restoration, mailed to the family at 706 Fifth St., Bonaparte 52620.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is assisting the family.

Mrs. SHUGART was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of William and Grace PATTON HAWLEY. She married A. P. SHUGART Jr., July 29, 1954, in Chicago. He died Sept. 8, 1979.

She lived in many locations before settling in Washington state, as her husband was a career Navy officer.

She was a department store buyer in Duluth.

She worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, D.C., and in Chicago.

She also did modeling in Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

She worked as an accountant at many hospitals, from Texas to Washington state.

She was a talented artist and genealogist.

In her retirement, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, moving in with them in Bonaparte in 2009.

Survivors include one daughter, Susan BURNS and spouse Kenneth of Bonaparte; two sons, Lloyd SHUGART and spouse Theresa, and William SHUGART and spouse Shannon, all of Seattle, Wash.; one step-son, Jim SHUGART of Lubbock, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Anne HAWLEY BENASSI of New York City, N.Y.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
