Raymond W. HILLGARTNER

Raymond W. HILLGARTNER, 77, of Fairfield and formerly of Danville, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at New London Nursing and Rehab Center.

The funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Elliott Chapel, New London. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery in rural Danville.

Visitation began at noon today, with family receiving friends from 5-7 p.m.

A memorial has been established.

Mr. HILLGARTNER was born July 26, 1934, in Burlington, the son of Carl and Tekla MILLER HILLGARTNER. He married Patricia Ellen WOOD Feb. 27, 1954, in Burlington.

He was a farmer, truck driver, cattleman and a shipping clerk at Ceco in Mount Pleasant.

He was a member of the cattlemen's association and Farm Bureau. He also enjoyed the Black Angus show at the Iowa State Fair Pavilion, his cocker spaniel, and all his grandchildren.

He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, nature, bird watching and being outdoors.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Morris HILLGARTNER and spouse Kelly of Lockridge, and Rick HILLGARTNER and spouse Susan of Harlan; five daughters, Rhonda MATHEWS of Mount Pleasant, Roberta BENGE and spouse Tim of Kansas City, Mo., Cheryl RICH and spouse Michael of Mount Pleasant, Margaret COLEMAN and spouse Jeff of Danville, and Sheila BLOMME and spouse Martin of Stockport; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Francis HILLGARTNER; and one sister, Erma HUPPENBAUER.
