"Christopher Columbus Nelson, 73, well known farmer living north of Fairfield, instantly killed today by a falling tree…..He was born May 17 1863 in Des Moines township. Had been a resident of Black Hawk township 62 years. Was never married. Survived by a sister, Mrs. Harry Jenkins, who lived with him, Mrs. Joseph West of Palm Station, Califl., and J. O. Nelson of Fairfield."
