Friday, December 30, 1988Brighton farmer dies from tractor mishap
Donald J. AMRINE 56, of rural Brighton was fatally injured when he was pinned beneath his overturned tractor sometime after 3 p.m Thursday.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department was called to the accident scene shortly before 6 a.m. today after AMRINE was found by his son Kris, who lives in the vicinity. Authorities said it was believed that AMRINE had gone onto his farm land to cut wood sometime after his wife Carol left for work at 3 p.m.
Mrs. AMRINE summoned her son when she returned home after her nighttime job and found her husband gone. The younger AMRINE came upon the accident scene about 5 a.m. today as he drove around the area searching for his father.
The tractor on which AMRINE was believed to have been riding apparently slid into a ditch and overturned on him, according to a sheriff's deputy. Jefferson County Medical Examiner T.J. Sutton said death was caused by massive injury.
The service for AMRINE will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church in Germanville with the Rev. John W. Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Fairfield. Family visitation will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. A memorial has been established.
AMRINE was born April 2, 1932, in Jefferson County, the son of Carl and Clara WIENEKE AMRINE. He graduated from Fairfield High School. He married Carol J. BARKER March 15, 1955, in Fairfield. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he had farmed all of his adult life in the Brighton-Germanville area and also worked for the State Highway Commission for 23 years. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Kris of Brighton; a daughter, Gail J. BROWN of Oskaloosa and three grandsons. His parents and a brother preceded him in death.
