Death of Mrs. John LONG (Barbara) at her home in Richwoods last Saturday evening..... one of Iowa’s earliest settlers and has lived near Richwoods about 55 years. Leaves husband and four children, Lewis, who lives in Walnut township, Rev. David LONG in Penn township, Mrs. Jane DORSEY in Wayne County, and Wesley, who lives at Chariton. Deceased was past her 75th year.

Mrs. Barbary (sic - Barbara) LONG, nee COURTNEY, wife of John LONG and mother of Elder D. LONG, was born in Virginia, Dec. 25, 1821. At the age of nine years she removed to Ohio, and resided there until the year 1839. Then she came to Jefferson County, where she lived most of the time until her death, July 7, 1895. She was married to John LONG Nov. 27, 1847. To them were born three sons and two daughters. The husband and four children survive her, one daughter preceding her to the other world at the age of 16. Faithful companion, kind and loving mother..... loved and respected by all who knew her. Funeral at the Richwoods church July 8th after which the remains were laid to rest in the Richwoods cemetery, there to await the resurrection of the just.
