Michael R. WHITE

Michael R. WHITE, 65 of Newton, formerly of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, May 14, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

A memorial service is at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Parish Hall in Williamsburg with Deacon Dave O'Brien officiating. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Hall.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. WHITE was born April 18, 1947, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Roscoe and Eunice CLINGMAN WHITE. He married Karolyn GREESON June 3, 1967. The couple later divorced. He married Marsha STAHL DRISCOLL Aug. 30, 2003, in Linby.

Mr. WHITE graduated from Pekin High School in 1965 and William Penn College in 1969. He earned a master's and a doctorate degree in special education from the University of Iowa, while working at Mid Prairie. He was a teacher and coach for many years at Washington High School. While the head track coach, the girls' relay team set a record at the state meet, which still stands today.

He owned and operated Mike White builders and White's Country Greenhouse in Washington, Iowa. He was a special education consultant for the Heartland Area Education Agency.

Mr. WHITE was a member of a band the "Troubadours." He was an avid gardener, enjoyed birds, car racing, bull-riding, the Raiders and the Yankees.

Survivors include his wife, Marsha of Newton; his children, Wendi WHITE of Leadville, Colo., Amy PITT and spouse Mike of Duvall, Wash,, (sic) Carisa DRISCOLL of Des Moines, Cameron DRISCOLL and spouse Stacey of Iowa City, Jeff WHITE of Sebastopol, Calif., Larry DRISCOLL and spouse Leah of South English and Keelan DRISCOLL and spouse Mindy of Williamsburg; 10 grandchildren; and one sister Mary MAXWELL of North Liberty.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Stephen and a sister Susan in infancy.
