Page 2, Column3Death of Mrs. A. D. ROBERTS.
At her home north of Fairfield, Iowa, Sarah S. ROBERTS (sic - Sarah J.) passed quietly away on Friday morning, Dec. 4, 1891. Sarah MALLAMS was born in Saratoga, New York, July 24, 1852. She came with her parents to Henry county, Ia., in 1856, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to A. D. ROBERTS in 1870, and moved in the same year to Jefferson county, where she has resided ever since. She was the mother of six children, all of whom survive her. Mrs. ROBERTS was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. The funeral service took place at her home Saturday morning at 11 o'clock.
After the services, conducted by her pastor, she was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery. Thus the light of another life has gone out, another home darkened and saddened by death.

Note: Sarah J. MALLAMS ROBERTS was the first wife of Asa Dickerson ROBERTS. He subsequently remarried and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery with both his wives, all three of them on the same lot, SDof17-012. Her gravestone gives her year of birth as 1851 instead of the 1852 mentioned above.
