Oscar O. Kessel, 69, long-time resident of Fairfield, died at 8:45 today at Jefferson County Hospital. Last rites will be Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. James Dendler, officiating. Born March 5 1897 in Jefferson county near Brighton, son of Mathias and Elisabeth Wendling Kessel; reared and educated in Jefferson County; married Feb. 28 1922 at Fairfield to Hazel Humston who survives. He had been a salesman for the Scarff Produce Company at Mt. Pleasant for over 30 years. Member Methodist Church and a past exalted ruler of the Elks Lodge. Also survived by one son, Richard, Iowa City; one daughter, Mrs. Stephen Babbitt, Hayward, Calif., and 3 grandchildren. (Burial place not shown.)
