Mrs. Matt Kessel.....Her maiden name was Mary Hotzinger and she was born in Baden-Friendburg, Germany, March 19, 1850. Her parents came to America from Germany in an early day and in the early ‘50’s settled on the Hotzinger home place in Walnut township, which remained her home until Feb. 18, 1869 when she was united in marriage with Matt Kessell (?) . Mr. And Mrs. Matt Kessel lived on the present Matt Kessell farm until 1904 when they moved to Brighton where Mr. Kessel died Apr. 30 1923.....11 children, 7 sons and 4 daughters, all of whom lived to attain manhood and womanhood. They are: Matt, John, Joe, Charles, Edgar, George, Raymond, Mrs. Andrew Duttweiler, Mrs. George Wendling, Mrs. Ed Hesser and Mrs. Ernest Koch. All live in this vicinity except Mrs. Koch who died three years ago and Mrs. Hesser whose home is near Chicago..... Burial in Brighton Hillcrest Cemetery. Pall bearers were grandsons: Ralph Kessel, Johnnie Kessel, Oscar Kessel, Morle Kessel, Verl Koch and Roy Duttweiler.
