Doris Kathleen CURTIS, 87, of Richland, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fremont Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery near Ottumwa.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.

Doris Kathleen CURTIS

Doris Kathleen CURTIS, 87, of Richland, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery (sic - in Ottumwa, IA).

Visitation, with the family present, will be 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel.

Memorials may be made to Richland First Responders, Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. CURTIS was born March 24, 1925, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Otis B. and Gertrude MILLER SIPES. She married Raymond Virgil CURTIS Aug. 17, 1947, at the Methodist church in Lancaster, Mo.

Mrs. CURTIS was raised in the Ollie area and graduated from Ollie Consolidated School in 1942. She then worked as a department manager at A & P Grocery Store in Des Moines and later attended Ottumwa School of Beauty. Following her graduation, she worked at Merrill Beauty Salon in Oskaloosa for several years. She and her husband farmed in the Ollie area for many years. In 1982, they moved to Richland when ill health forced her husband's retirement from farming.

Mrs. CURTIS was a past officer of the Hedrick Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, a member of the Ollie Chapter of Order of Eastern Star and a member of Oskaloosa White Shrine. She also belonged to Ollie Methodist Church.

Mrs. CURTIS enjoyed baking, fishing, caring for her garden and flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband; four daughters: Janice ANDERSON and husband Robert of Wayland, Elaine WOOSLEY and husband Craig of Bloomfield, Cheryl LORING and husband Edward of North Port, Fla., and Linda O'ROURKE of Osprey, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-great -grandchildren (sic).

She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant daughter, Patrice CURTIS.
