Mrs. Wilson HEATON, widow of the late Col. W. G. HEATON, former pioneer resident of Jefferson county and long-time military officer, died last night about 6:50 p.m. at her home, 205 E. Broadway.
She had been in failing health for the past several years and seriously ill for the past two days.
Last rites will be Friday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m. CDT at the Weston Behner funeral home with Edward Esler in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson HEATON, the former Esther APPLETON, was born Oct. 20, 1876, at Chicago. She was united in marriage to Col. W. G. HEATON on Aug. 20, 1918, at St. Paul Minn. He passed away Aug. 20, 1945.
Her husband was born at Glasgow, Iowa, and moved to Fairfield when a boy of 14. He received his degree from Parsons college in 1888, and was later admitted to the bar. In 1896, he helped organize Company M, 2nd Regiment of the Iowa National Guard, and continued in military service until 1920 when he retired with the rank of colonel.
Mr. and Mrs. HEATON returned to Fairfield at that time and she had made her home in this community since.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Alexander COX, St. Paul, Minn., along with several nieces and nephews.
