Julia 'Julie' Loretta McCURREN

Julia "Julie" Loretta McCURREN, 78, of Edina, Mo., died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Mo.

A Mass was held Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Mo. Interment was in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery in Edina, Mo.

Memorials to the Nutrition Site or library may be mailed to Doss Funeral Home at 208 N. Fourth, Edina, MO 63537.

Mrs. McCURREN was born May 8, 1933, in Indian Creek, Mo., the daughter of C.E. and Johanna Lillis WALKER HAYS.

Mrs. McCURREN graduated from Swinkey High School as valedictorian in 1952. She married John Edward "Jack" McCURREN June 6, 1951, in St. Stephens Catholic Church in Indian Creek, Mo. He died Aug. 8, 2010.

The McCURRENs moved in 1951 to Edina, Mo., where they ran the McCurren Maytag Store. They moved to Clarence, Mo., in 1954 and returned to Edina in 1956. They opened McCurren State Farm insurance and operated the business until Mr. McCURREN's retirement in 2003. Mrs. McCURREN was a Knox County public administrator for a number of years. She also chaired the Knox County March of Dimes for many years.

Mrs. McCURREN was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina and served on St. Ann's Altar Society for a number of years. She also was a member of Baring Country Club and Edina Country Club. She was a member of Knox County Not Ready for Primetime Players. Mrs. McCURREN volunteered at Knox County Nutrition Site and Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and visiting the library.

Survivors include six children: Ric McCURREN and wife Patty of Fairfield, Donna GAGNE and husband Don of Placerville, Calif., Don McCURREN of Edina, Mo., Debbie EDWARDS and husband Steve of Edina, Kent McCURREN and wife Debbie of Edina and Rodney McCURREN and wife Betty of Ashland, Mo.; one sister, Marcella KENRDICK of Shelbina, Mo.; two brothers, Paul WALKER of Monroe City, Mo., and Tom HAYS of the Quad Cities, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son in infancy: Randy McCURREN; three sisters, Emma Jo KELLER, Bertha HAYS and Ethel Mae CAMPBELL; and four brothers, Pete, Frank, William and Harold HAYS.
