Mary Catherine STEBELTON (sic. a/k/a Mary Cathrine on her headstone; maiden name likely was misprinted - should have been "STEBLETON"), daughter of Jacob and Jane STEBELTON (sic. STEBLETON), was born in Dayton county, Ohio, July 11th, 1858.

She came to Iowa with her parents in 1873 and the family settled in Liberty township. Aside from two years in Wapello county she has had her home in this county since the family came from Ohio.

She was married to George W. CORNELL Sept. 28th, 1876, to which union there were born four children, one of whom, Mrs. Emma May GILLETT, passed away twenty years ago. The living children are: Frank of south of Fairfield, Mrs. Harley M. THOMPSON of Burlington, and Ray of this county.

Besides companion, she leaves the following children (sic. grandchildren): George Russell GILLETT, and Helen LEWIS, also one brother William STEBELTON (sic. STEBLETON) of Deering, North Dakota, and a number of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. CORNELL was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church of Libertyville, some thirty years ago, and after coming to this community had united with the First Methodist Episcopal church here. She was a regular attendant of the church services as long as she was able to do so. She had been ailing for a number of years, but the past two years had suffered greatly at times.
