FARSON - Doris C. SYLVESTER, 83, formerly of the Hedrick, Farson, Packwood and Fairfield areas, died Monday, March 4, 1996, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
The service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Greg Lockett officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Ottumwa. Visitation is open at the funeral home, with the family present from 7 to 8:30 tonight. A memorial has been established to Manor House Activity Fund in Sigourney.
Mrs. SYLVESTER was born Aug. 3, 1912, in Linby, the daughter of Amel and Bessie WILLIAMS NELSON. She graduated from Packwood High School. On Aug. 19, 1931, she married Wayne N. SYLVESTER in Monmouth, Ill. He died April 18, 1966. They farmed in the Hedrick and Farson areas. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Fairfield.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ellen SANDIFER of Blakesburg, Phyllis CLINGAN of Sigourney; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. An infant brother, Cecil NELSON, and a sister, Alice RIGLEY, preceded her in death.
