"Germanville July 15th '78. Mr. Adam KNERR was born in Bavaria Sept. 1783. Emigrated to America in the year 1830, bringing with him his wife and five sons, one son having preceded him to this continent. He resided in the state of Maryland one year, then emigrating to Franklin County, Ohio. In the year 1844 he came to Iowa having been preceded by two of his sons, and settled in Lockridge township in this county, where he remained until his demise, which occurred May 2, 1878, at the house of one of his sons, having reached the great age of 94 years 7 months and 9 days. At the time of his decease, there were living four of his sons, 49 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, making a living family of 144 persons. Of this remarkable family not one has ever been prosecuted in a criminal case, and but one in a civil case..."

[Ed. note: Wife was Louisa per the 1850 and 1860 censuses. He is buried in Germanville Union Free Cemetery.]
