Page 3, Column 3DEATH OF JOHN HIRSHBERGER.
Born in Rodersol, Wittenberg, Germany, Dec. 26, 1820 (sic - 1829), died in Walnut township Mar. 16.... He came to America with his parents at the age of six months. The family lived at Baltimore, Md. until 1832 and then moved to Fairfield County, O. He came to this county in November 1850 and it had since been his home. He married CHRISTENA SCHMEDEKE (sic - SCHMADAKA) in May 1857 (sic - June 15, 1867, per county marriage records). Six sons and one daughter were born to them, five of the former dying in infancy. One son, John, grew to manhood and died a few years ago. Caroline, the daughter, was the wife of Henry CRILE, who has seven living children. Mrs. HIRSHBERGER’s age was 76-2-16. Funeral services Sunday morning at the German Lutheran Church.... His death is the first in a family of nine, the oldest 79, the youngest 52. Two brothers, L.J. now in Calif., and Philip in Kansas, survive him. Six sisters are also living—Mrs. J. A. SPIELMAN of this city, Mrs. C. H. GROSS of Des Moines, Mrs. Magdalene STAUP of Burlington, Mrs. Katherine MYERS, Mrs. Caroline ARRAS and Mrs. Minnie HEINZ of Kansas.
