OBITUARY

JOHN DIERS

John DIERS, son of Peter and Catherine DIERS, was born in Walnut township, January 21, 1856. For thirty-three years he lived in that community. Then he moved up in Buchanan township, where he lived until he came to this city eleven years ago. On February 26, 1885, he was married to Anna FLINSPACH.

Those left to mourn his loss are the sorrowing wife and two children, Mrs. Sylvester LIBLIN of Fairfield; Mrs. Ralph MESSER of Brighton, Ia. He is also survived by five brothers: Henry, Bernard, of Fairfield, George, Albert of Brighton; Frank of Pleasant Plain.

He was suddenly stricken with a stroke on February 21, and the second one on April 10, and passed peacefully away on Easter Sunday morning, April 20, at 10 o'clock.

He was raised in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in the church at Germanville, Iowa. He was a solid, substantial man, industrious and reliable, and an honor to his family. Mr. DIERS was a kind husband and father and will be greatly missed in this community.

Funeral services were conducted from the home on April 22, at 2:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. Wolgumuth, assisted by Dr. U. S. Smith.

The pall bearers were the five brothers, Henry, Bernard, Albert, George, Frank, and the two son-in-laws, Sylvester and Ralph.

The songs were sung by a quartet, "Going Down the Valley," "In the Garden," and "The City of Four Squares." The many beautiful flowers were but tokens of love from his many friends which were legion. Interment was in the Evergreen cemetery.

I am not related to surname.
