Ralph WHEATLEY, 83, 502 W. Washington, died at 9:05 p.m., Wednesday at the Ottumwa Hospital where he has been a patient the past nine days. He had been in failing health the past year.
The funeral service will be Saturday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m., at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Lynn Bergfalk of the First Baptist Church and the Rev. George Koch of the Free Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Born Dec. 4, 1892, near Hillsboro in Van Buren county, he was the son of Jobe and Nancy TAYLOR WHEATLEY.
He was reared and educated in the rural schools near Hillsboro and attended high school at Stockport. He was a veteran of World War I.
He married Neva Belle ALLENDER on June 12, 1919 in Ottumwa.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Clinton Lodge No. 15, AF&AM, Kaaba Shrine and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
He was maintenance employe (sic. employee) of Jefferson County for many years. He was a foreman for the Iowa State Highway Commission for 38 years, prior to his retirement in 1958.
He is survived by his widow and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
