Murreen K. PETERSON, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Stacy Grau officiating. A graveside service and interment will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Murreen K. PETERSON

Murreen K. PETERSON, 89, of Fairfield, formerly of Council Bluffs and Decorah, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Stacy Grau officiating. A graveside service and interment will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Mrs. PETERSON was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Kossuth County, the daughter of Joseph and Emma GANGSTEE TUTTLE. She married Richard E. "Pete" PETERSON Nov. 16, 1945, in Elmore, Minn. He died Aug. 10, 1990.

Mrs. PETERSON grew up in Elmore and graduated in 1939 from Ledyard Consolidated Schools in Ledyard. During World War II, she worked at White Castle Restaurant in Minneapolis, Minn. She worked at Luther College in Decorah. She had been a resident of Fairfield the past 22 years.

Mrs. PETERSON was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs and First Lutheran Church in Fairfield. She was the representative for the 5th Ward of the Democratic Central Committee of Jefferson County and was nominated for District 2 Hall of Fame in 2010. She was honored for providing the most baby quilts from Iowa for the ABC Quilts Organization: "Murreen from Iowa."

Survivors include one son, Richard K. PETERSON and wife Linda of Cedar Park, Texas; three daughters, Lorene "Lori" SMITH of Fairfield, Marilyn WICKHAM of Des Moines and Joanne PETERSON-CHICO and husband David of Madison County; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arnold TUTTLE of Albert Lea, Minn.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Carl Joseph PETERSON; two sisters, Alma ENGELBY and Ethelyn SCHAEFFER; and three brothers, Julius "Dewey" TUTTLE and twins Noah and David TUTTLE; two sons-in-law, Tom SMITH and Steve WICKHAM; and one granddaughter.
