Charles A BEKEL, 84, lifetime resident of Walnut township northeast of Fairfield, died Monday at University Hospital in Iowa City. Born Aug. 15, 1880 in Walnut township, son of Clarence Jacob and Wilhelmina BERG BEKEL. Born and reared on the same farm where he was living at the time of death. Married April 30, 1906, Elizabeth MILLER; active in church and community affairs; member Hope Lutheran Church. Survived by wife; one son, Merle BEKEL, Brighton; one daughter, Mrs. Willard DIERS, Fairfield; 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Services Wed. 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Rev. Erwin Abelmann in charge. Casket bearers; LLoyd BEKEL, Harry BEKEL, Max Baldosier, Rudolph Eckey, Theodore Eckey, and Otto Eckey. Gould Funeral Home, Brighton.
