Obituary.

"For behold, who shall say what a day shall bring forth." Seldom is a community more startled than was ours at the announcement, "Fred SHEARER is dead." Frederick Joseph SHEARER was born in Pennsylvania, November 10th, 1853. In 1855 he came with his parents to Ohio and in 1858 to Fairfield, and they made their home on a farm near the city. It was from this home our departed brother was called January 15th, 1897. He was married to Miss Leonora WHITHAM January 6th, 1881, She died May 19th (sic - 17th), 1894, leaving one son, Frederick Whitham. October 15th, 1889, he was married to Miss Marian B. SMITH, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. SMITH. His wife and son survive him. He leaves three sisters, Mrs. S. R. PATTERSON of Osceola, Mrs. F. R. NORVELL and Mrs. D. R. BEATTY, both of this city. Though not well for some time he had not given up until the previous Sunday morning.

Mr. SHEARER had held offices of trust which he filled with honor to himself and to those who placed him there. He was an honest, useful citizen, a good neighbor, and a kind and loving husband and father. None knew him intimately but to love and respect him. Though the summons came suddenly, it found him ready, for long ago he gave himself to Christ.

Our dear friend whom we all loved so well is gone. His friends will sadly miss his brotherly companionship. There will be a vacant seat in the church, most of all there will be a painful sense of loss in the home. The bereaved friends have the heartfelt sympathy of the community in which they live. The funeral was conducted Monday by Rev. A. F. Marsh of the Congregational church, of which deceased was a member, and the remains were laid to rest in the Evergreen cemetery to await the resurrection morn.

The family and sisters wish to express their deep gratitude to many dear friends who have assisted and comforted them in this, their great affliction. A.
