Christian WEIBLE died at his home in Walnut township last Saturday morning at three o'clock. Deceased was born in Germany Feb. 17, 1830, came to America while still a young man, and lived for a few years at Rochester, New York. In that city he married Miss Mary REUSCH. Five sons and six daughters were born of this union, of whom two sons and one daughter have preceded him to the shores of the unseen world.
In 1856 Mr. WEIBLE came to Iowa, and has been a resident of Jefferson County ever since. For many years he was engaged as a miller at Merrimac, but of recent years has lived on his farm. As a business man and a citizen he has had a long and honored career. His last sickness was of a week's duration, during which loving hands ministered to him, but he could not prevent the final summons. He peacefully fell asleep surrounded by most of his children. Funeral services were held at the Germanville Methodist church. As an indication of the esteem in which he was held, more than eighty carriages were in the funeral train, and a hundred people were unable to gain admission into the church. The sermon was preached by Rev. S. Thero, of Mt. Pleasant, from the text “He giveth his beloved sleep,” after which the remains were laid to rest in the adjacent Dallner Cemetery. ”After life's fitful fever he sleeps well."
