Weldy E. BLACK

Weldy E. BLACK, 91, of 705 E. Washington Ave., died Saturday May 23, 1992, at Parkview Care Center.

He was born July 7, 1901, in Batavia, the son of Archibald and Mary Elizabeth SNOOK BLACK. He married Velma SILVER Sept 15, 1922 in Ottumwa. She survives.

BLACK was reared and educated in Batavia, graduating from Batavia High School. He taught school in the Batavia area early in his life and he and his wife owned and operated a restaurant in Batavia for several years before moving to Fairfield.

BLACK the moved to Des Moines where he was a bookkeeper for more than 15 years for the Thermoking Company. He retired in 1967. The BLACKs moved to their current Fairfield home in 1970.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge of Fairfield.

Surviving are two sons, Don of Muscatine and Richard of Des Moines; one daughter, Mary Louise HOLLIS of Loveland Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, three brothers and two sisters.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Campbell-Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon, the Rev. Thomas Clark officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Visitation is open. Memorials may be directed to the Batavia First Responders.
