James Carrol SANAGHAN, 74, of Lockridge, died early Tuesday, July 12, 2005, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
The funeral is scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Lockridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Newman officiating. Burial will be in the Lockridge Cemetery.
Visitation began at noon and continues until 9 p.m. today at the Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.
A public Mason service will be conducted at 6 p.m. today by Clinton Lodge 15 AF & AM of Fairfield. The family will receive friends following the Masonic service until 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Lockridge Fire Department, Lockridge Baptist Church or the Lockridge Cemetery.
Mr. SANAGHAN was born Oct. 5, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Hugh E. and Myrtle Alice ERICSON SANAGHAN. He married Marlene Elaine BONNETT Sept. 29, 1950 in Pleasant Plain. She died Nov. 5, 1990.
He moved to Lockridge as a child and graduated from Lockridge High School.
For 46 years, he was employed as a powerhouse engineer by the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.
Mr. SANAGHAN was a past president of the Lockridge Lions Club and a former member of the Lockridge City Council. He was a 50-year member of the Clinton Lodge 15 AF & AM. He was initiated as an Entered Apprentice July 22, 1953, passted to the degree of fellowcraft Dec. 16, 1953, and raised to the sublime degree of a Master Mason June 9, 1954.
He was fond of the Allis Chalmers tractors he had owned and restored. He often paraded them at Midwest Old Threshers and Lockridge Days. He also tinkered with his collection of model railroad trains. He enjoyed being in the outdoors fishing and boating. For many years, he planted and maintained a vegetable garden.
Survivors include one son, Steven SANAGHAN and wife Sharon of Lockridge; three daughters, Jane LOGAN of Mount Pleasant, Janice MARTIN and husband Bob of Fairfield, and Deborah and Tom GREINER of Lockridge; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one son-in-law.
