HITE Rites At Batavia

Harold HITE, 78, retired Jefferson County farmer, died at 3:10 a.m. today at the Ottumwa Hospital where he had been a patient since Tuesday. He had suffered a heart attack Monday evening.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Batavia Methodist Church with the Rev. William Huffman officiating. Interment will be in the Batavia Cemetery with arrangements in charge of the Pedrick Funeral Home at Douds.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening. Memorial gifts are requested for his church or the heart fund.

Harold HITE was born Sept. 15, 1898, in Wapello County. He was the son of Frank and Bertha ACTON HITE.

When he was a boy the family moved to a farm south of Batavia where he resided until his retirement ten years ago. He and Mrs. Hite moved to Fairfield at that time and the family home is located at 500 S. Maple.

He and Frances PARKER were united in marriage April 22, 1922, at Ottumwa. She survives.

HITE was active in the Batavia United Methodist Church having served in numerous church offices. He was a member of Kilwinning Lodge, AF & AM, Batavia; Fairfield Lions Club; served 30 years as director of the Southeast Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative at Mount Pleasant; he was the first treasurer for the Cardinal School District.

Currently he was serving as director of the Farmers Telephone Co. at Batavia and was a state inheritance tax property appraiser.

HITE was preceded in death by an infant son and a sister.

The members of the Fairfield Lions Club will meet at 1:30 p.m., at the Batavia United Methodist Church to attend the HITE rites.
