Pg. 2 Col. 4ANTHONY W. JAQUES PASSED AWAY TODAY AT HIS HOME HERE
A.W. JAQUES (sic. Anthony Wayne JAQUES), one of the best known and most highly respected residents of Jefferson county, died this morning at 4:40 at his home on West Broadway. Death was due to a complication of diseases. He has been in poor health for nearly a year and confined to his bed since last November.
Mr. JACQUES (sic. JAQUES) was born May 16th, 1846 (sic. his headstone inscription uses May 4, 1846), in Washington Co., Va., and moved to Jefferson county, Iowa, in November, 1848. In 1864 he enlisted in Co. I, 45th Iowa V.I.
He read law and was admitted to the bar in September, 1877, and elected clerk of the District court in October, 1878, and has served as mayor of Fairfield and justice of the peace.
He is survived by his wife and one son, Edgar A. JAQUES, of Minot, North Dakota.
The funeral will be held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock from the Methodist church in charge of Dr. Thomas Osborn, of Mt. Pleasant.

Note: Anthony was married twice, and both wives are buried with him on the JAQUES family plot, 1st.059, in Evergreen cemetery, Fairfield, Iowa.
His first wife, married in 1867, was Elizabeth Cornelia JOHNSON JAQUES. His second wife, married in 1882 (he was a widower at that time), was Elizabeth Amy HAMILTON JAQUES.
Also buried in this JAQUES family plot are three children from Anthony and his first wife: Charles W. JAQUES, Joseph W. JAQUES, and a married daughter Cornelia JAQUES MAGGIO.
