G. M. BONNETT DIES AT HOME

George Marshall BONNETT, 94, pioneer resident of Jefferson county, passed away at his home at the end of South Main street yesterday at 6:00 p.m. He took seriously ill Monday afternoon.

Mr. BONNETT came to the Libertyville community from West Virginia in 1860. He watched the state of Iowa grow during most of its first 100 years of existence. He moved to Fairfield over 40 years ago and had been a resident here since.

Last rites will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home in charge of Dr. L. H. Scheerer. He will be laid to rest in the Fairfield Abbey. The family requests no flowers.

Mr. BONNETT was born November 20, 1851, in Virginia. He was the son of the late William and Matilda BONNETT. Since the death of his wife, he had been cared for by his niece, Mrs. John FISHER.

He is survived by two brothers, Edward, of Libertyville, and Charles Daniel, Fairfield; and a sister, Mrs. Charles LANGDON, Fleming, Colorado.

(I actively research the BONNETT lineage.)

Admin. note: George was initially interred in the Fairfield Abbey, a mausoleum that stood in what is now the 6th Addition of Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield. Over the years structural weaknesses caused the Abbey to partially collapse, and those interred there were removed to other accommodations before the Abbey was demolished in the 1970s. George and wife Kathryn (STEBLETON), who died in 1945, were removed to Evergreen Cemetery by August 1, 1968, and interred in Lot 2nd.278½.
